There are two basic types of car insurance; Third Party and Fully Comprehensive. Third Party usually covers Fire & Theft as well. This type of insurance is about half the cost of a Fully Comprehensive policy so is popular amongst young drivers who have no No Claims Bonus or discount. Third Party Insurance only covers the costs of anyone you drive into. It does not pay one cent towards the cost of damage to your own vehicle. Third Party policies do not even pay if someone crashes into your vehicle while it is parked at the side of the road. It is worth considering this cheaper option if your vehicle has a low book value. Fully Comprehensive policies cost more but they do provide you with cover in case an uninsured driver runs into you. It also pays out your repair costs in a two vehicle accident. You lose your No Claims Bonus in ANY accident because it is a No Claims, not a No Blame bonus. You have to seek redress from the other driver for financial losses including loss of No Claims discount. |
